Step 2 – Set professional skill development goals:
Next, using the 3-4 areas that you identified in step 1 (Assess Skills), create specific goals to address these areas.
1. Create SMART goals for developing and improving professional skills. SMART goals are: Specific, Measurable; Achievable; Realistic; and Timely. For example, Develop public speaking skills by delivering three training presentations to group members during organizational meetings by end of the academic year.
2. For additional guidance, meet with your advisor, career counselor, or mentor.
3. Discuss gap areas and opportunities to practice the skills.
